conflama - No plan for this Sunday yet but seeing she is going to the memorial on Monday (which means I have to come home early to look after our son) so I would hope she doesn't go to the KH this Sunday. We are off to see the musical Matilda on Easter Sunday and then the following weekend we are off to Chepstowe in Wales. I am also taking my wife to see the musical 'The Book of Mormon' in May. It will be interesting to see what she thinks of it. Cheers Fraz

Is the WBTS a parasite on worldly society?
by Frazzled UBM inso i ran into a couple of elderly lady witnesses on the street and asked them the usual questions about how much they knew about the history of the organisation.
anyway after being dismissed with the usual contempt i asked them whether they were working and the answer was "no we are on the pension and live in council housing".
so it got me to thinking that across the developed world there must be very large numbers of witnesses or ex-witnesses in exactly the same situation - basically living off the evil worldly state or more precisely the taxes of evil worldly people.

So I ran into a couple of elderly lady Witnesses on the street and asked them the usual questions about how much they knew about the history of the organisation.
So it got me to thinking about why this is the case.
It is the case because the WBTS teaches Witnesses not to get a decent education and career and not to save for the future. Why do they do that - to get ther freee sue of the Witnesses time to recruit more Witnesses. More Witnesses mean more contributions which means more property assets. The contributions are tax free (on the basis the WBTS is a charity even though it does no charity work) and is money the Witnesses could otherwise be using to save for real estate or retirement.
So Witnesses mostly end up retiring with no pension savings of their own and no property so are completely dependent on the state to provide for them. The WBTS is both the cause of and the beneficiary of this as Witnesses are in effect an unpaid workforce for whom they do not provide any pension. So not onloy are Witnesses victims of the WBTs fraud but so are governments and tax payers - the fraud beign that they are pretending to be a religion that does charitable works when in fact they are a corporation that pays no tax and does not provide for its work force in retirement.
So if there was any justice in this world - the penalty for the fraud the WBTs has perpetrated over 100 yers woudl be for governments to confiscate its property assets and sell them and after setting aside money to pay for the victims of child sex abuse, create a fund for retired Witnesses and ex-Witnesses to reduce the financial burden borne by the state and worldly tax payers.

If The Organization Was A Country, Then.......?
by metatron ina different way to look at the organization.. suppose that the organization was a country of 8 million or so.
given that jw's believe that god will one day slaughter everyone else and leave them to inherit the globe, this is a fair matter to think about.. would "watchtowerland" be a theocracy..... like iran?.
would it be ruled by a group of old men........like the former soviet union?.

o emeth you are so sad - persisting in your belief in the WBTS's tired old prediction of Armageddon. After 140 years of saying it is coming soon, oh so soon, how can you still maintain the fiction that is coming and that the only people who will be saved are only those who blindly obey a bunch of old men in Bethel who know about as much about Truth as Joseph Stalin. Such arrant arrogant nonsense.
As for what the country would be like - nothing would function and it would return to the dark ages as curiosity, initiative and intellectual endeavour would be outlawed. Science would be virtually non-existent. The plague and various other eradicated diseases would reemerge. Basic infrastructure would fail. Old people would die of neglect as they wouldn't be able to live off the taxes of worldly people any more.

The True Nature of Shunning
by done4good inalthough i have been out for 8+ years, my recent experiences with this have taught me quite a bit.
i believe most here would claim this is what mind controlled people do when they are in contact with a known "former" believer, so i think some deeper understnding of what is really going on is in order.. i always asked why is the "mind control" so effective and how do the organizations that intiate it, learn how to?
i never really could find a satisfactory answer.

Advice, Opinions, Please!
by mellojello indo any of you sometimes experience difficulty in shaking wt teachings?
like it intrudes in your daily life and thought and some things that may be alright, now you feel as if they're wrong or you plain just don't know.
i know the wt is a lie but i haven't lost my faith in god, i know he's there but it's hard knowing whats the right thing to do.

mellojello - The WBTS can really mess with your head. Have you considered counselling? You appear to still be carrying a lot of WBTS baggage, including phobias. Talking it through with a professional could help you face up to your fears. Good luck Fraz

d4g - very perceptive - I agreed it is the absoluteness of the WBTS's 'Truth' and the fear of doubts instilled by the WBTS that make shunning of Apostates so natural for Witnesses, as you say the mere existence of an Apostate is a source of doubt (it is not quite so obvious for those shunned for fornication etc. but presumably breach of the moral code is also seen as an attack on the Truth). Hence the need to bring inactive ones back into the fold through love-bombing before they become fully fledged Apostates. Hence also the vitriolic hatred of 'worldly people' for not accepting Jehovah's message so lovingly delivered - this is an effront to the Truth.

Involved with a JW woman
by jonza inokay so i'm dating a born-in jw woman, she's younger than me and has no kids.
i'm a christian man whos divorced with 2 kids.
we're in love and seriously want to be together.

jonza - I am sorry to say it but I think you are too keen to make compromises in respect of kids who are still only theorietical possibilities - smacks a little bit of desperation - is having kids with this woman really so critical that you are prepared to allow them to be exposed to virulent WBTS indoctrination. I have refused all of those concessions. I celebrate all the holidays with my son and he gets zero indoctrination. My wife has learnt to accept this. I see this as my duty to my son as his father to protect him from abusive WBTS psychologically manipulative material. Her father was not a JW but yet her mother exposed her to the material and it still has a hold over her. Let this be a lesson to you. If you have no prospect of succeeding with a zero tolerance approach then my advice is walk away. Sorry to rant but I think you are thinking with the little head. Cheers Fraz

Is this new donation arrangement for real?
by nugget injust read a post on jwsurvey about the new donation arrangement.
congregations are to pledge a monthly amount to be sent to the society to fund the building of assembly halls and kingdom halls.
congregations who already have a loan from the society will no longer have to pay back the loan but the amount pledged should not be less than the current monthly repayments to the society.

emeth - for as long as my wife remains indoctrinated some of our money (hopefully not much but I have no idea) goes to the organisation based on fraudulent representations by the organisation about who they are and what they are about. Fraz
